One of the Biggest Mistakes a Bride Can Make

Your wedding is just too important a day on which to make a grave mistake. It’s the culmination of so much loving thought and planning – perhaps even since childhood – to create the perfect, fairytale. Two people, in this huge world, have found each other and decided to share their love and commitment with friends and family. So many details have been meticulously included from the tiniest sparkles on the table settings to the design of the rings.

So where does a mistake appear in these careful plans? The venue is exactly what the couple want to express their joy and celebration in their own particular way. The bride has chosen the most romantic dress possible which reflects her personality. The groom is going to look fabulous. Expert caterers are chosen. The cake is ready and designed to complement the theme of the wedding. The band is booked and the couple’s favourite music selected. Interwoven throughout their arrangements the couple have added some personal details, which hold a deep significance in the story of their romance.

On the day itself, the bride has arranged a dazzling hair and make-up session. Her Dad has organised a surprise, sumptuous form of transport to take them both to the ceremony and venue. Bridesmaids, flower-girls, pages, groomsmen and best man are all perfect too. No mistakes so far!

All the planning has paid off – the day goes seamlessly. Everything and everyone is fabulous! The bride is happier than she thought possible! But she has made one of the biggest mistakes possible on her precious wedding day. She has asked a friend, with a good camera, to record all those magical moments throughout her day and she has left him to it.

How many brides would tell future-brides not to make this mistake? I even did it myself! It simply is not a corner worth cutting. If ever there was a time when quality photography mattered, it’s your beautiful wedding day! Can you imagine wanting to relive all those precious details of the day and they are either missing altogether or so poorly taken that you are bitterly disappointed and wish you could have a second chance. I know how deeply let-down it feels to anticipate gorgeous photographs and have so few worth seeing that you can’t even make an album with them and you end up having to ask some of the other guests for their “snaps” to fill your album! If a friend or a relative messes up, there’s no “take two.”

There is absolutely no substitute for professional photography and for professionals’ experience n the most important day of your life. The stunning results of fine photography, beautifully lit and posed, will make your heart sing and allow you to relive each and every moment from your precious day forever.

I began my photography career as a Scottish landscape photographer using Minolta film cameras. I always loved being in the countryside and photographing in such beautiful locations. Although I was enjoying what I did and selling internationally, I always longed to ‘try’ weddings but, using film, and knowing how vital someone’s wedding photographs were, I never would try. When I shifted over to digital, I was still shooting landscapes but this was the opportunity I needed to photograph weddings. I knew I needed new skills and put in a considerable amount of time studying and taking some intensive training with Jerry Ghionis. Photographing weddings and portraits uses different techniques and skills and I believe we can all keep learning from each other. Currently, I am enjoying the best of both worlds in the stunning Scottish scenery and photographing weddings together with my daughter, Roz. It was Jerry who helped us work out the new name for our business - Euphoria at www.euphoria-photography.co.uk.
