Allergy Season is Upon Us!

What do you do when you are allergic to flowers but want beauty and color on your wedding day?  You search the Internet for alternatives!  Today there are many wonderful and beautiful options.

What if you have set your heart on live/fresh floral arrangements?  I suggest you speak with a floral expert but here are some suggestions to give you an idea where to start.

1.  Consider succulents – they come in several shades and colors and offer luxurious textures.  Use them in your centerpieces then send them home with your guests at the end of the night.

2.  “Low pollen” fresh flowers – Some of these are not “considered traditional wedding flowers” but are beautiful and fun!  Begonia, chenille, clematis, columbine, crocus, daffodil, dusty miller, geranium, impatiens, iris, pansy, periwinkle, petunia, phlox, rose, salvia, snapdragon, thrift, tulip, verbena, zinnia.  These could be used in bouquets, corsages and would be perfect for centerpieces at the reception.  What awesome guest gifts.  (I am not an expert in fresh flowers and found these flowers on my Internet research)

Decorate your tables with live plants/flowers potted in some super cute containers and then at the end of the night send them home with your guests.

Are you open for options?  I suggest you explore some of the following ideas.

1. Paper flowers that can be simple or sumptuous. I have seen paper flowers themed with the bride and groom’s interests such as; sports, music, holidays, super hero or you can go with solid colors.  They can be combined with brooches or accented with jewels or buttons or more understated.  Paper flowers can be draped in swags, hung from ceilings and arranged in everything from the bride’s bouquet to the centerpieces.  Work with your designer to come up with fun arrangements and containers that reflect your personality.  Use the arrangements at the end of the night for great guest gifts.

2.  Fabric/Ribbon flowers:  Options are never ending and can be embellished with fun and of course sparkling items.  I say items because the embellishments can be brooches, buttons, Legos, pins, Etc.  I have even made arrangements combining dried flowers and branches for bouquets and centerpieces.  Do your homework on the Internet and look at sites like ETSY or Pinterest to find samples and independent artists that create these items.

3.  Button and brooch bouquets:  These are beautiful and can be lots of fun!  The artists that create these bouquets love what they do and most welcome using your buttons and brooches to create your one of a kind bouquet.

Many of the flower alternatives come with a price tag, as they are usually hand made and very labor intensive.  The up side of this is that they will last a lifetime and can be displayed or stored away for future generations.
